This 4 day course is for licensed paragliding pilots that want to learn to fly parakites and understand everything about them. We will probably fly 3 days on skis and one without skis. It would be nice to get some soaring in, but we can’t promise it….We will mostly be doing laps in a ski resorts. If the new swiss parakite licence from the SHV is public, you will be able to achieve this one in this 4 day course.
We reserve 5 days and will skip one day. Which one we choose as early as possible. If all 5 days look flyable, the course is held from Thursday to Sunday.
Learn the basics of flying parakites. You won’t become a pro in 4 days, but we want to give you the necessary know-how and skills so that you can fly parakites safely on you own in the future and make wise decisions here in the mountains but also when soaring the coast.
This week is for all pilots that know how to ski and have enough flying experience. We recommend a minimum of 150 paragliding flights. It’s ok if you never flew a miniwing or a parakite. You don’t need a licensee to join. But we don’t use radios to teach, so you need to be independent enough to learn flying new wings in an easy spot. Good skiing and groundhandling skills help a lot to learn flying with skis.
Insurance is the responsibility of the participant! We require you to have accident insurance that covers you for paragliding and better also for speed flying in case you wanna try speedparakites as well.
Wings: We will have many wings you can fly during this week. Take the chance and try many different ones so you know which one might fit best for you. Here is a list of wings we will have:
Flare; Moustache 2, Line 2, Bandit, Scout
Flow; Mullet 2, Albatroxx
Harnesses: We recommend a harness without a seatboard. It’s good to haven an airbag and a reserve. However the airbag is not absolutely needed when flying on skis in snow. Many seat plate-free hike and fly harnesses are suitable, regardless of whether they are reversible or not. You don’t need a protector for speed riding, but it makes sense to have one for speed flying, although many people fly without one. To clarify whether your harness is suitable or not, it is best to give Beni a quick call.
Reserve parachute: Since we fly often close to the ground with parakites a reserve isn’t always needed. But we do make big flights down into the valley where a reserve makes sense.
Skis: Since we do fly off-piste, freeride skis are best suited. Skis with a width between 100 and 120 mm under the binding are ideal. Touring bindings and touring ski boots are no problem. But you can also show up with regular piste skis.
Additional equipment: We recommend a back protector and a good ski helmet.
Ski goggles: Good visibility is important! Bring unscratched ski goggles, ideally with two lenses, or one lens that allows you to see even in flat light. Good googles are super important in flat light! Take this point seriously!
Accommodation is generally the responsibility of the participant and is not included. However, we are happy to help you find suitable accommodation for example a 4 bed room you can share with others from the course. In Winter you can find rooms for around 50.-/night in Interlaken.
