Our Opinion – Ozone Wisp 2 Review
After the first flight you can tell this wing is made for easy take off and easy landings. It inflates like a dream in no wind and lifts you up very early for a 37m tandem! Don’t let the small size scare you off! The landing is also very easy, you can slow it down a lot. It flares really well and of course even better when you have trimmers open and some extra speed.
The stallpoint is quite low, it’s very hard before it stalls like most tandems. You don’t need much travel to make it turn, it turns really nice thanks to its high arc design. Flying straight it has no unwanted roll thx to the winglets. It seems they use a different airfoil then on the Magnum 4, which doesn’t not have much lift on the As. The Wisp 2 has a lot of Lift on the As, it’s very hard to pull an asymmetric collapse. If you do, it’s not impressed at all and reopens quick and easy by itself like a tandem needs to. It feels like quite a safe wing, which is what you want. Who wants to carry a 2.5kg reserve up as well…?
The built quality is awsome as always with Ozone. The Wisp has the Same thick 2.5mm rods then the Enzo in the leading edge:-) It feels like and overkill, but i think that helps for the inflation and load distribution from the attachment point. I would recommend not to bend them too tight, they will remember for sure! Thanks they are not superlong… it has A,B,C,D Lines on top, but only 3 lower down. So it’s quite simple, also the risers. The wing has no diagonals and no straps inside, so they used as little fabric as possible. Which keeps the weight down, but specially the packing volume. With the new 26g fabric you can really pack it quite small! Too bad Ozone doesn’t deliver it in a nice concertina compressbag. It comes with this huge standard bag that is quite useless. Our demo is now in Skywalk Smartbag S with the tail folded over.
The risers; Ozone came up with a nice trimmer system that works without any metal, so it’s super light. But it’s a bit fiddly and it didn’t work well on the first flight, we could not open one side completely. And this whyte soft Ultralite risers know from other Ozone wings just suck. It’s about time to use smarter webbing that is more stiff, like other brands do. It doesn’t even add weight, but makes it so much nicer…i really don’t understand why Ozone keeps using those whyte risers.
