Our Opinion

When it comes to reserves, size matters! The U-Turn Backup series offer a big surface and bring you down very slowly. We have used them in SIVs and the sinkrate is really good, even when loaded with max weight. It is also very easy to repack it, it doesn’t have a slippery fabric.

The Backup X is by far our most sold reserve. It’s cheap, it’s reliable and brings you down slowly. We think it’s has by far the best price/weight/safety ratio. You can find lighter reserves, but they are all much more expensive.

The weight we measured is:

• 100 is 970g
• 115 is 1190g

What we like about the U-Turn Backup X

• Big surface area
• Stable descent
• Quite light
• Very cheap
• Very easy to repack, the fabric is not slippery at all

Good to know

• The packing volume is rather big, compared to others with the same weight range. A big surface brings some volume. It’s simple physics. If you want the smallest frontcontainer, go for a Skywalk Tapa X-Alps. It’s also one of the lightest available.
