Niviuk Kode 2 P Review – Our opinion
We loved the Kode P one for it’s fun factor, it had a lot of roll but still a very high passive safety. Fun and Safe. The Kode 2 P sadly lost this fun factor a little bit. It doesn’t roll as much anymore. It is still rolly enough that you can do wingovers with weight-shift only in size 20 with 80kg tow. (and you don’t even need to support it with the brakes – it won’t collapse). For the bigger sizes like 22, 24 and 26 it’s good having less roll, that makes them easy enough to learn on. Before it was kind of tricky to learn on the Kode P….
Flying next to each other seemed pretty much the same on size 20. Same speed, same glide. One thing we noticed is the new one seems trimmed a little bit slower. So when you bring it to the stall point, it doesn’t pitch forward as much and start flying as quick. The new one takes a bit more time to start flying again. On launch you can feel the same; You need to pull the A-Lines slightly until the wing is above you. If you let go the A-Lines a bit early the wing will hang back a bit. It’s not a big deal, but we liked the old one better at launch. Maybe the new one is more easy in strong winds, we haven’t tested this yet.
It’s easy to notice the new one has less aspect ratio. But that doesn’t seem to matter, they glide the same. The Kode 2 P is bit more dampened in turbulence, it’s slightly more comfortable than the first one. The smaller sizes of the first gen were quite chatty in turbulent air…that is improved with the new one.
According to Niviuk the Kode 2 P has an even more stable airfoil, plus les aspect ratio. So it should be very solid in turbulence, even more than the old one, which was great already!
The bottom sail of the new one is made from this new 22g fabric, which is almost transparent. If it is much more fragile…time will tell. It’s the also from Dominico and has a silikon coating, very similiar to the 10D which is 25g. The new Kode 2 P packs up slightly smaller than the old one thanks to this new fabric. But it’s very similiar.
We also compared it to the Ozone UL5 and it’s very similar overall. We compared the Kode 2 P 20 with the UL5 19 and the glide and speed was the same. The UL5 is slighty faster fullbar. Packing volume is also about the same. The UL5 has fiddely risers which are not stiff at all and the rods need to be packed nicely, they will remember otherwise. But therefore the UL5 is cheaper since 2026, ozone lowered the prices of the UL5 in 2026.
What we like on the Kode 2 P
- Super light and small packing volume
- All Nitinol rods
- Stiff risers that are not fiddely
- Very stable airfoil (you can do wingovers without supporting outside)
- Still reactive to weightshift
- Perfect Niviuk built quality
Good to know
- Less roll then previous model (less go-kart feeling)
- Hold A-Lines on launch until wing is fully up
