Our Opinion – Ozone Vibe GT
Finally Ozone has a wing between Geo and Swift 6, which was huge gap in my opinion. The Vibe GT seems to placed well exactly in the middle. It’s easy to fly, but requires some active piloting sometimes, you have to stop quickly the outside wingtip when thermaling sometimes.
Stability
It feels vey solid in the middle, the tips sometimes collapse, but really just the tipps. It feels like there is a lot less lift on the A-lines than on the Swift and all the 2-liners obviously. It feels like Ozone is using a more classic airfoil without reflex for this B-wing, which makes sence for certification. The Vibe also has no other rods than on the leading edge.
Thermalling
It turns with very little input. Normally you have to pull more on the Ozone gliders to make them turn, this one needs very little travel to turn or also to make big wingovers. However you can pull down far without stalling it, it’s vey forgiving and when it stalls it goes slowly and it get’s super hard before. It’s not a wing you stall or spin by accident! Like with any other Ozone wing, the stallpoint is very low!
Flying on Bar
Ozone claims it has a revolutionary B/C steering….it’s ok but not revolutionary. It’s actually pretty hard. The Hiko P is a bit softer on the bridge! It’s as hard that it gets exhausting when flying on it for a longer time. But it works well and is efficient, but you have to yank it down all they ways sometimes to control the wing, even down to the limit. Surprisingly it didn’t stall down there yet, maybe it will when you keep it all the way down for a long time…
Collapses
You can pull small collapses as well, not like on the Swift 6, where the wing is very stiff and you can’t just pull the nose down, it comes always deep. If you pull a 50% collapse and keep it in, the Vibe tends to turn to the open side. The tiniest weight shift to the open side make it turn to the open side. If you pull fullbar collapses, it can reopen a bit violent depending on what you do with your weightshift and brakes. But normally it’s quite gentle and easy to control.
Pulling frontal collapses is easy and unspectacular.
Fullstall
It’s quite a nice and forgiving wing to stall. Exit is easy, it re-inflates slowly and doesn’t shoot much at all. The tips stall a bit earlier, but it works without a 2 stage stall.
Performance
Didn’t compare.
Resume
I think Ozone made a good mid-B wing that is safe and allows pilots to step up even from an A wing if they have some talent and fly a lot.
Advantages
- Turns very nice with very little input
- Climbes well
- Easy and stable to fly
- Very forgiving stallpoint and fullstall behaviour
Good to know
- It packes very small, but i still rather heavy compared with others
- The risers are rather heavy with the pullies and the 4mm maillons
- You need to pack it nicely otherwise the rods in the leading edge will remember
- It has mini rips with stichings outside. It’s cheaper to make it this way, but easy to pull out the thread on launch.
