Our Opinion – Ozone Magnum 3

We tested a bunch of recent tandem wings and we think the Magnum is the easiest to take off, fly in turbulent air and to land. You can tell it’s made to fly in strong conditions, it also has the lowest aspect ratio, most tandems have 5.5 the Magnum 3 only 5.2. It is also the one that gives the passenger the smoothest ride. Chances that your passenger will get sick, are for sure reduced with this one.

On no wind launches it inflates a little slow when the rods are bent after using it a lot. But it still comes up well and lifts early. There is zero tendency to overshoot. When thermalling you feel safe, it’s stable and doesn’t do much above you. You don’t have to fly it very active neither. But the brake travel needed to turn is rather long, it’s not super agile. You need to pull to make it turn. It is well dampenend in roll and pitch. The brake pressure is one of the lightest if not the lightest on the market. Even lower down it’s not crazy hard. That’s why it’s also a good wing for lady pilots.

This low brake pressure also helps you to land it nicely. It doesn’t make the most lift on the flare, but enough. And it’s very forgiving with the timing. If you flared a little early, no problem, you’ll still get a soft landing. We think it’s one of the easiest tandems to land.

We recommend you the Magnum 3 if you want an easy, stress free tandem wing. If you are not flying very regular, or you are flying in strong winds or also for beginner tandem pilots, we think the Magnum 3 is great.
